Grrreat news, the Shade II Graphic Novel by Marv Wolfman and Prima Games will be, according to Barnes&Nobles {er at least my local one up here in the NW of the NW USA}, coming out sometime in April! They didn't have a precise date, but they had a nice guesstimate. April. {Maybe timed to coincide with the release of the game itself onto the online world.} Prima Games if ya remember are the publisher of alot of gaming paperbacks. Strategies, walkthrus, hints & code books etc. Marv Wolfman himself is no slouch lol having drawn for such great comics as Teen Titans, Blade, even Daredevil. Keep your finger on the pulse. This one's got a strong beat. :)
Thanks for the offer! Well I've already found the big 2pager that IGN has on it and Mobile Guy here has a section on his site about this as well for your inforamic wants and needs. It's looking pretty positive. :) I didn't bring over IGN's link being that that's a different forum altogether, but it's so far one of the hugest runups I've seen on it.
y would i play shade 2 when capcom doesnt advance there mobile game? they waist there time coming up with new rules instead of new gear and areas for us 2 explore. ive been playing shade and lords of the rings by capcom mobile games for 6 years and havent saw a upgrade in gear or areas to explore in 4 years. i really dont think i would play another capcom online game. they become boring and stagnant ,and u got someone telling you how to play a game you pay to play. atleast my playstation doesnt tell me how i can play it. the new administrators have taken all the fun out of the game for me. so now i just log on occasionally log on to say hello to old friends and thats it. shade 2 gonna be like shade 1 boring and stagnant.
Me I'm just a wait and see kinda cat, cause alot of times I predict something of something else and it makes a fool outta me to spite me lol but I have heard talk of Shade2 for a few years now so it's good news and alot of articles about it so alot is riding on it really coming out and not being a grand jest. Final proof for me will seeing it on the games menu itself. As for how it'll be over there that's even further along the wait and see line. We'll have the same admin and alot of the same players but my hopes that alot of it will be a fresher start.

Capcom's heading down a new road for wireless gaming. by Eduardo Vasconcellos
May 11, 2007 - When Shade II was announced, not a lot of information was released with it. Fortunately, we had enough moxie to persuade Capcom to giving us some extra info on the new game. We had the chance to speak with Dave Dies, Studio Head and Executive Producer of Capcom Interactive Canada, who gave us some new info about what is sounding like an ambitious title and if they can pull it off, Capcom will have something that's well worth your attention.
For those who are unfamiliar, the original Shade is a massively multiplayer wireless RPG set in a traditional fantasy world, complete with elves, orcs and dragons.
That's right, a "massively multiplayer wireless RPG" - an MMO for the cell phone. This is set to be one of the largest launches of an MMW, and it's certainly something that caught our eye. The game itself isn't very demanding, running as a WAP application in the background of your phone, with a simple interface and visuals, similar to that of an NES game along the lines of the original Dragon Quest. As the hardware has advanced in the nearly five years since the original Shade's release, quite a few improvements are being made.
The game will use an isometric presentation, using an approach similar to Ultima Online, bringing the visuals up a couple of notches. One of the bigger draws that the game has to offer is that it will be incorporating the works of Marv Wolfman (Superman Returns, Teen Titans), who has been commissioned to write a series of novels and comics based in the Shade universe, creating a rich continuity to the game. "We are taking a very circular approach to Shade," Dies said. "We plan to incorporate events from the game into the books and vice versa. We want to keep common themes throughout licensed products so that they are always familiar to the readers or players. If you read the book and then play the game, you'll recognize key places, weapons, monsters etc."
Though it will have rich storylines and a nice continuity, the biggest question for any wireless title is gameplay, and it's looking like Shade II will come through in this department in spades. When asked about this, Dies assured us that it will be easy and familiar to anyone who has played an MMO. "You move around the world in real time. If you come across a monster or another player, you can engage them in combat, or they may attack you. Wield your weapon, or ready a spell and start attacking. Watch out for other monsters in the area, they may join the fight. Other players roaming around may happen upon the battle, they may join in or help out by healing. You always have the option of fleeing from the battle."
Combat will be handled with what's already tried and true, using a series of items and actions attached to different hotkeys, very similar to what you'd find in a traditional MMO. "You would be wearing some sort of armor that was equipped from your backpack. You would potentially be wielding a weapon that you had equipped from your backpack as well. You would also select an active spell from the spells you have inscribed into your spellbook. All of this would be done through a user interface into your inventory. When you are ready to engage a monster or another player, you would use a hotkey to attack. Depending on the type of weapon, you would either be presented with a direction to strike or a cursor to aim your attack followed by a confirmation key to initiate the attack. Casting spells would be similar, a hotkey to start the casting process followed by either a direction or cursor to aim and finally a key to actually cast the spell."

Shade II Q&A by Eduardo Vasconcellos {Page2 on Shade2}
When it comes to character classes and skills, things become a bit more progressive, and its sounding like it'll have one of the most satisfying character customization engines in recent memory. Four character classes are available from the start of the game: a mage, a healer, a fighter and a ranger. Mages use offensive spells, healers use defense and healing magic, fighters specialize in melee combat and rangers use bows and other ranged weapons. The thing that makes it unique is that rather than having a defined set of skills that you can purchase based on your class, players are able to use any and all of the abilities in the game, with your proficiency in a given ability growing with every time you successfully use it.
"I've never been a big fan of classic D&D… choose a class and you're stuck with it, or take a huge experience hit or even starting over," Dies informs us. He goes onto explain that with the way the game is laid out, every character starts off more or less the same, transforming to a unique, customized avatar based on your style of play. "Characters are all generic humans with similar stats when you start. You have your standard Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence that determine your HP and MANA. From there, you grow skills of your choice through your actions. Use melee weapons to increase your Fighter experience. Cast Mage spells to increase your Mage level, etc. If you get tired of melee weapons, try out a Bow and work your Ranger skill or become a Healer. You're never penalized for ignoring a skill and you can always circle back if you want to be a stronger Mage later on."
The gameworld will have all of the staples of the fantasy genre, with a good number of environments ready to roll when Shade II launches, providing users with hours of adventuring ahead of them. "It will consist of different terrains such as forest, swamps, and mountains," says Dies. "There will be dozens of dungeons and caves to explore. As with the existing Shade game, Shade II has been designed to grow, and will. We will expand the main world map and the dungeons as necessary." Dies went on to inform us that there wouldn't be any instances that you'd find in WoW or LotRO, as these areas are continuations of the main world, rather than separate areas. Though that's the case, these dungeons, caves and crypts act still offer some tougher battles to parties, as they will have larger and rare monsters scuttling about, waiting for you to slay them.
It was implied that constant updates and patches that you'd find in proper MMOs on the PC would be translated over to the wireless platform. When we asked Dies about this, he assured us that regular patches and content updates would be the norm. This is the trend with the original Shade and it will continue in Shade II, giving incentive to advanced gamers to continue with their journey. "Adding new monsters and weapons happen on a regular basis as well as more substantial features like adding an Auction House to the game. Players explore and advance at a rapid pace, we do our best to keep them challenged."
The biggest concern that we can see right now is one with the handsets and service provider compatibility.
Since different service provider/handset combinations have different capabilities, the question of system requirements is a fairly big one. When asked about this, Dies said "As long as a phone allows network connections from within a downloadable application, the game will work. As for network speeds, the game has been designed to deal with different network latencies. Like any other networked game, if your connection is drastically slower than the average connection, you will be at a bit of a disadvantage. There is no way around that, even mainstream MMO's have that problem."
Basically, if you bought a phone within the last year or two and it's network capable, you should be covered. Right now, it's sounding like a title striving to deliver more than what we're normally used to, and that's fine by us. The game is in its early stages of development, so we haven't actually had the chance to see it in action yet, but it's something that we're intrigued by. We'll be keeping our ears to the ground on this one -- keep an eye out for more information on Shade II on the way to its release in 2008.
And here's some Images / Artwork at IGN: Shade II Screenshots, Wallpapers and Pics Address: http://media.wireless.ign.com/media/900 … mgs_1.html You'll see Chaos going trick or treating, past administrator/sorcerer Grimm after a hard day fighting good And evil and that's just on CGShade's forum lol jk, the silverware drawer in their cafeteria ha, and the wicked new logo. Art done up by CG's own Sever. Do we get a prize for identifying the weapons/types depicted on Pic#3? :D
All in all at least for this post lol it's seeming very very iiinteresting. The hearsay grapevine's been rumbling to expect it out on Mar.30th, or Q1 as I've seen on Mobile Guy's page meaning sometime Spring, and IGN and a few others have just said '08. Here's the cool part, I'm only just expecting the 1 graphic novel, IGN says Series of comics And novels! That's a tall order of flapjacks there. This and folks say Shade1's update will happen BeFoRe Shade2 debuts! Now either the hearsay grapevine is Just That or it looks to be real exciting times ahead. :D
{You're not the only character in a Capcom game that's also been rendered graphically, Dr. Light a DC character as well as MegaMan's creator lol jk, and DarkStalker's Felicia as well as Marvel comic's Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat. This and Capcom has previously made a Teen Titans game. Dr.Light called, he wants his desklamp back lol.}
Looks like Shade2 is hitting a delay or two, this is just disappointing, but Shade Happens, even when it don't lol. Oh, to be able to see and hear what goes on in Capcom Interactive Canada's offices daily just to know, just to know! {ignore the cat poster on their wall whose eyes follow curiously as you walk by} I'm guessing it's maybe final code debugging, betatesting, getting it passed through each different prospective cell company and final software updates to include it visibly on each phone's menus and where exactly. :)
ok... by now I'm seeing that the March 30th release date is not going to happen. I wonder when it will be released. I'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing if it's all that it's promised to be.
I do have one concern, character names from Shade1 won't be reserved? Maybe it could be asked the TID {Transfer InDentification} number be provided before a player in Shade2 is allowed to go in as a name they could potentially cause trouble with.
Say uh hmmm example here say a player named Dimitri hates another player named Jedah? Shade2 opens up and this fake Jedah goes in, mass pkills, thieves around, harasses and insults, just generally wrecks stuff up! In Shade1, the repercussions could get felt by an innocent Jedah and in Shade2 the name is taken by Dimitri and that player who might have an attachment to That Name now can't get it! Ya gotta know Shade1 to help make Shade2 a better product, I mean at least it might help? Give it a thought?
And now a Question, this one also concerning characters, but concerning only one Player {each lol}:
Say a player with a character named JTaLbAiN has a Cellphone character, can they also access this same character from their PC? At the same Charge/Cost? Or will JT have to make a character for each?
Now to Weapon Naming, and possible steed and boat naming?:
Player LrdRaptr wants to start drama with another player B.B.Hood and names an item "RidingHood's Basket of BarbieHeads", or name his horse B.B.Rifle or his boat something offensive. Sure it might Not be against TOS {Terms Of Service}, but alot of what slips by TOS is Contextual and Circumstantial, if Admin doesn't know interplayer history or current events then alot of subtle professionally done harassment and stalking gets to occur scotfree. That's a miserable situation.
You give an inch, the mile will be taken, but clear boundaries are a comfortable sight for folks wanting an enjoyable gaming experience. Servers being hacked is one thing, minds and moods being hacked is not as easily fixed. Preventative Maintenance? We'd love Shade2 to be better in many ways, not just technologically. Just some ideas from a Shade Player/Character perspective.
