This thread is not about whether dlc unlock codes, or paying for dlc that is already on the disc, are good or bad; I think that most of us here are not fans. This is about whether we, as consumers, have the right to all content upon the disc that was purchased.
I'm not an intellectual property lawyer (nor do I play one on tv), but, to the best of my knowledge, in the pre-digital media era consumers were the owners of all content on game discs that they purchased. So long as one did not violate any copyright laws in regards to distribution, airing of said material, it was ours.
Capcom is not the only game company that sells us unlock keys for content already on the disc. All of the big publishers do it. But just because a practice is standard does not make it right.
So the real question hare is: Does Capcom, or any other publisher, have the legal right to sell us material that we already own; material that's in our physical posession? Do we legally own all content on the disc, or just the parts that Capcom say we can access? Is there any other comparable event in media that we could compare this unfortunate trend to?
Any thoughts or insights are welcome.

In my opinion, I beleve that we sould not half to buy more of a game we already own. I don't think its right that we half to pay for extra content. I do love capcoms games, but why do they half to abuse us. Microsoft does it, EA does it, and now Capcom. I refuse to pay more for a game that is not complete or already owned. you have lost a customer.

Thats very true, I feel if you purchase the product, you should have full access to the content you bought, its ridiculous that you have to pay more for something that is already on the disk.

It's a rip off. I've actually considered and have skipped games because I would go to the store to buy a newly released game, on release day, and the package is already telling you that there is DLC available. You haven't even bought the game yet and you now have to spend more money for items. The DLC for Dead Space 2 was fine because it was actually and add on. But when you are paying $5.99+tax or more for a 50kb unlock key for content already on the disc, that's just wrong and should be illegal. If it's extra and we weren't meant to have it then don't include it on the disc. I'm surprised that there hasn't been any kind of lawsuits yet. But I would sign up immediately if there was.
